Orij, Croatia

Orij Orij, a narrow stretching settlement, as all the other places on this part of the coast, is now completely merged with its neighbors, Dugi Rat in the east and Mali Rat in the west.

The section above the Adriatic Magistral is composed of continuous chain of houses built on the steep slope of Mt.Mosnjica and the narrow section below the road is mainly composed of beaches with some tiny residential areas.

Orij is popular for its long beach and especially its sandy sections with the crystal clear sea extending all along the settlement.

Accommodation is mainly found in private houses and apartments and the best choice are certainly beach houses. However even those above the road are interesting as being situated on the hill they all offer a sea view.

Hikers and trekkers in search of calm and fresh air with beautiful views of the sea and the islands could easily ascend Perun.

In addition to this, above Orij and Mali Rat, at some 250 m there is an old abandoned village of Krug linked  with other three villages (Stare Jesenice, Zeljovici and Stare Duce), that all the settlements on the cost originate from, by a local road.

More curious promenaders might be tempted to go seeking for two caves from stone age : Turska pec and Ponistrice hidden somewhere up in Dalmatian karst.

Orij is primarily a destination for families with children in search of tranquility that could easily find all they need either in Orij or in nearby Dugi Rat that provides all kind of services.

Main advantage of being build along the Adriatic road is that Orij is well linked with all other places along the coast, especially with Omis and Split. It enables people to easily reach and visit the main middle Dalmatian attractions but in the high season this can eventually lead to traffic jams.
