Krilo - Jesenice, Croatia
Krilo
Jesenice is one in a series of settlements of Dugi Rat municipality
located between the sea and the mountain.
Its houses piled up on the
southern Perun' s slope are stretching along the coast in a rather
narrow belt.
Krilo, formerly a separate village, is now merged with
its neighbours: Bajnice, in the west and Suhi Potok in the east.
SHIPS
The
settlement is known in the region for its boats. It has the biggest
fleet of old sailing ships in Croatia. The tradition is dating back
three centuries, there are still anchored large wooden boats:
salbunjare and trabakule. Formerly, they were used to transport wine,
then sand and recently they have been reconverted into cruise ships.
BEACHES
Local
beaches stretch under the Magistral road in a narrow belt. These are
pebble beaches and in some parts, particularly in front of the
pensions and houses there are concrete platforms.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation
is manly offered in private houses and apartments as well in small
pensions. Obviously, the best choice is a beach house or pension, but
as almost all the houses are built on the slope they all offer a sea
view.
Here,
all necessary facilities are located along the main road and within
walking distance.
SMALL HARBOUR
As
Krilo's harbour serves as a winter stationary for tourist boats they
are anchored in a couple of rows. However, even in summer the boaters
will always find a free place and could berth between breakwaters.
Also, there is a small crane.
DAILY TRIPS
During the tourist season the harbour
is a starting point for various boat excursions and cruises.
STARE JESENICE-OLD DALMATIAN VILLAGE
Hikers
and promenaders could visit the original old village Stare Jesenice,
abandoned because its inhabitants descended by the sea to built the
new settlements.
Ascending the street Sveti Nikola at some 250 m, in
the middle of Poljicka Planina you are going to discover that old
village.
Stara Podstrana, one similar village is situated in the
west, but if you go east, there are Zeljovici, Krug, and Stare Duce
waiting for you.
These villages, linked by an old local road and
easily reachable, are excellent examples of old rural dalmatian
architecture.
Lately a couple of enthusiasts have been trying to
revive these small jewels. The
whole
way there
you're offered a terrific view of the sea and its islands.
JESENICE TREKKING
If you
happen to be in the area in April, don't miss „Jesenice trekking“
if not a competitor then at least a recreational participant.
FOR WHO?
Situated
on the main coastal road, in the vicinity of Split, Omis, Trogir and
Makarska, Krilo enables its guests to visit and explore quickly and
easily all the region and even the broader area.
