Bajnice, Croatia

Bajnice Bajnice, a tiny village 9 miles south of Split, is a first in a series of small settlements of Dugi Rat municipality.

It lies behind cape Mutogras where is located its small harbour and stretches along the sea till Krilo.

Until recently, Bajnice was a tiny fishing village but as it enlarged it merged with its neighbours: Podstana, in the west and Krilo, in the east.

In the past, these villages built on the Perun's slope were separate, but nowadays they create interrupted agglomeration where passes the Magistrala – the principal coastal road.

Its pebble beaches stretch in the narrow belt below the road and those wanting to take long walks along the sea could go to Podstrana with its uninterrupted beach till Stobrec.

Accommodation is mainly offered in private houses, apartments and small pensions along the coast with concrete built beaches.

Being a small place, in Bajnice everything is in a walking distance, a post office, a grocery store and a couple of restaurants. Larger purchases can be done in Dugi Rat or Omis and Split.

Although Bajnice has a small harbor, boat excursions are organized from neighbouring Krilo and its larger harbour.

Hikers and promenaders could start ascending the Poljicka Planina immediately from the coast, from its southern slope where are situated almost all Bajnice houses.

On that small mountain with an average height of 500 m are located six minuscule churches and five old stone villages, examples of popular rural architecture, now abandoned, but probably revived again in the future.

On the western slope, on 250 m is situated Stara Podstrana and Stare Jesenice, Krug, Zeljovici et Stare Duce are in the east.

Perun's slopes, covered with fields, vineyards and olive trees, interspersed with paths and mountaineer’s roads are ideal for trekking and some parts also for VTT.

In April, there is a “Jesenice trekking” that resembles a considerable number of competitors and recreational participants.

In addition, the eastern part of Poljicka Planina, the mount Mosnica, above Duce, near by Omis is very popular among the climbers

Besides offering beautiful karstic landscapes and fresh air the Poljicka Planina proves to be a fantastic spot for picnic-goers with a tremendous view of the sea and the middle dalmatian islands.

Bajnice, a place for tranquil family holidays, situated in the vicinity of the main coastal road and the biggest middle dalmatian attractions enables its guest rapid day- trips in surrounding areas.
